Just a day after the devastating attack on a mosque in Police Lines in Peshawar that claimed the lives of more than 100 people, the Punjab police on Tuesday night repulsed a terror attack carried out by the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on a police station in Mianwali.

In a statement, District Police Officer (DPO) Mianwali said that a group of 20 to 25 heavily armed insurgents attacked the Makerwal police station in Isakhel district.

However, the DPO said, the terrorists were forced to flee after an exchange of heavy gunfire. “A few terrorists also were also injured in the retaliatory firing by the police,” the official said.

A four-person committee has been constituted by the Inspector General Police (IGP) of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, to investigate the terrorist incident. The Additional IG Training, DIG IT, and representatives from Special Branch and Operations make up the four-person team.

The committee and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha will work together to organize search and combing operations against terrorists. Additionally, he gave the order to begin searching in the regions near Makerwal Police Station.
