OTHER than his financial incorruptibility and absolute devotion to Pakistan, the biggest strength of Prime Minister Imran Khan undoubtedly is his empathy and compassion for the underprivileged segments of the society.
In almost all his speeches and interviews, he talks about lifting them out of poverty and with the same purpose he has started one of the country’s biggest ever social safety program called Ehsaas.
Addressing a ceremony marking the expansion of Ehsaas Koi Bhooka Na Soye which aims at distributing free food to daily wage earners, the Prime Minister said the government would expand the network of kitchen trucks and health coverage across the country elaborating these measures would uplift the underprivileged and help the country prosper.
One fully agrees with the assertion of the Prime Minister as it is the responsibility of the state to take full care of the have-nots.
Koi Bhooka Na Soye programme indeed is a blessing for the labourers and workers who often do not get the work.
Especially in the context of Covid-19 which especially has affected the livelihood of daily wagers, there is need to further expand this program at a fast pace. Our people are known around the world for actively taking part in charitable work.
We will urge the private sector including big businesses to also contribute in the Koi Bhooka Na Soye programme and help the government expand this to the whole of the country.
It is also for the government to issue health cards to the beneficiaries of this program on a priority basis as those who cannot make both ends meet, how they can bear any health related expenses.
And finally, the ultimate goal should be graduating them from the poverty.
As Ramazanul Mubarak is beginning, special efforts need to be made to keep the prices of essential commodities under check as the inflation has badly hit the fixed income groups.
The local administrations should be given tasks in this regard and those failing to deliver must be penalized.
