PM lauds governor’s role in extension of GSP Plus status

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday appreciated the steps taken by Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sawrar for the extension of GSP Plus status.

The Governor Punjab briefed the Prime Minister about the meetings held with the Vice Presidents of the European Parliament as well as members of the European Parliament during his visit to Europe regarding the extension of GSP Plus status.

The Punjab Governor met Prime Minister Imran Khan at Chief Minister House, Lahore during his visit to the City here on Friday. At the request of Governor Punjab, the Prime Minister approved awarding university status to Toba Tek Singh sub-campus of the Agricultural University of Faisalabad.

According to the details, during the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Lahore on Friday, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar called on Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Chief Minister’s House.

In addition to discussing the administrative, political issues and universities’ reforms, Governor Punjab gave a briefing to Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding his visit to Europe.

During his briefing to the Prime Minister, the Governor of Punjab said that during his visit to Europe, he met with more than 30 members of the European Parliament, including four Vice Presidents of the European Parliament in Brussels, Italy, and Hungary.

The extension of GSP Plus status for Pakistan, the Afghan peace process, the Kashmir issue, protection of minorities in Pakistan, and other important issues came under discussion during these meetings. The members of the European parliament appreciated Pakistan’s measures for the Afghan peace process and protection of minorities.

Governor Punjab further told the Prime Minister, Imran Khan, that after successful meetings with members of the European Parliament, he was confident that the decision to extend GSP Plus status will be in favor of Pakistan, adding that the European Parliamentarians have commended Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace and have assured their full support in GSP plus extension for Pakistan.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan gave the approval to make the sub-campus of Agricultural University of Faisalabad a university at the request of Governor Punjab upon which he thanked the Prime Minister.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the provision of basic amenities including public health and education is the top priority of the government for which federal and Punjab governments are utilizing all resources. All measures are also being taken to curb inflation, he added.
