LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms with snowfall over the hills for Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 10 to March 13.
As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on March 09 (Saturday). It will extend upper parts of Pakistan on March 11 (Monday). Another westerly wave will enter Pakistan on March 12 (Tuesday).
Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram from March 10 (evening/night) to March 14. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected on March 13 and March 14.
Possible Impacts and advises:
Heavy rain with isolated heavy snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Shangla on March 13 and March 14.
Wind-thunderstorm/hailstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. Tourists are advised not to travel unnecessarily, while farmers are advised to remain cautious about their crops.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in the upper districts during this period.
Kalam remained the coldest place in the province where the temperature dropped 10 degrees Celsius below freezing. In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 08 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 86 per cent.
