Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update; monsoon rains expected

PESHAWAR – Monsoon rains are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will likely penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan tonight. A westerly wave will also likely approach the upper parts of the country on Thursday.

Under these conditions, rains and gusty winds are expected in Balakot, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur and Kurram on Wednesday night.

On Thursday and Friday, more rains and gusty winds are expected in Balakot, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Khyber, Bajaur, Waziristan and Kurram. Heavy falls may also occur at few places during the period.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 40-42°C on Thursday and 38-40°C on Friday.

Meanwhile, hot and humid weather prevailed in Peshawar and most districts of the province during the last 24 hours. However, Buner received 07 mm rain.

Dera Ismail Khan remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 45°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 47 per cent.

In Peshawar, maximum temperature was recorded at 44°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 40 per cent.
