LAHORE – Lahore Electric Supply Company LESCO reportedly puts ban on green meters, in another blow to solar system users who will bear brunt of extra charges install alternate meters.

In Pakistan, solar green meters were introduced to promote renewable energy and reduce dependence on grid sources. Green meters are being used by considerable amount of people to generate their own electricity and sell excess power back to the grid.

‘LESCO bans Green Meters?’

Reports that Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has banned the use of green meters. The company also mandated the replacement of these meters with Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters.

The power supply company was said to provide a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the purchase of AMI meters for solar connections. Consumers will be responsible for buying these meters from the market using the NOC, as per the reports. The development gave a jolt to inflation-weary people as this transition to AMI meters will place an additional financial burden of Rs20,000 on consumers, as the price difference between AMI meters and green meters is twenty thousand rupees.

LESCO denies reports of ban on green meters

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) turned down reports of ban on Green Electricity Meters. Instead, they announced that NOCs for AMI meters would be issued to help reduce over-billing and power theft.

LESCO also explained that power outage was due to repair work on the I-Con Valley feeder, with advance notice given through newspapers.
