A middle intensity explosion outside the Peshawar High Court building on Monday afternoon left around dozen people including a cop seriously injured.
Despite that the blast occurred in a highly congested area, luckily it remained less devastating though over a dozen vehicles parked outside the court were damaged badly.
While initially it was suspected the explosion was caused by a CNG cylinder fitted in a rickshaw, later the police confirmed that explosives were used to carry out the blast that caused harassment and panic in the area where hundreds of vehicle and public transport were plying.
Reports said an explosive device weighing four to five kg and fitted in a rickshaw went off with a big bang turning the rickshaw into little pieces. “The CCTV footage of the blast shows a rickshaw travelling at great speed when reached close to gate of the Peshawar High Court exploded”. As many as 12 passerby and those sitting in the surrounding cars sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital as the rescue teams and the law enforces rushed to the site of the blast. The doctors at LRH, said the condition of all injured was out of danger.
While no body has owned the responsibility of the blast, the Police has started probe into the Monday’s blast.
About five to six kilogrammes of explosive material was used in a blast, City Police Officer Muhammad Ali Gandapur said while quoting an initial report prepared by the bomb disposal unit.
