Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal the head of an eight-member selection committee which has been tasked with conducting U13, U16 and U19 trials for the selection of regional and district teams.
This will be the first concert between Kamran Akmal and the PCB in an official capacity with the 41-year-old long being linked to a role within the governing body of cricket in Pakistan since his retirement.
Akmal will serve as the chair of the committee with Sohail Tanvir, Amir Nazir, Taimoor Khan, Junaid Khan, Faisal Athar, Qaisar Abbas, and Sanaullah Baloch completing the other members.
Each selector, along with the head coach of the region/district, will conduct trials according to the schedule, which the PCB will announce in due course.
This practice has been in place for many years by PCB.
Akmal is one of the most recognised faces in cricketing circles in Pakistan, having represented his country in 268 international fixtures.
Sohail Tanvir and Junaid Khan represented Pakistan in 121 and 107 international matches respectively while Amir Nazir played six Tests and nine ODIs from 1993 to 1995, Faisal Athar played in an ODI in 2003 and Qaiser Abbas played in a Test against England in 2000.
Sanaullah Baloch and Taimoor Khan are former first-class cricket.
Akmal is the latest in the line of former cricketers being handed considerable roles after Wahab Riaz, his former teammate, was named interim minister of Sports in Punjab.
