LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced a seven-member national selection committee.
Speaking at a press conference along with newly nominated members at PCB headquarters at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, he said that there will be no chairman and all seven members will have equal powers.
The selection committee will consist of former skipper Mohammad Yousuf, left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and middle-order batter Asad Shafiq. The head coach, captain and analyst will be the other members. The same selection committee will work for the Under 19 cricket.
Mohsin Naqvi said that two to three coordinators will help the committee but they will not have voting powers.
Expressing hope that the seasoned former cricketers will help produce good results, he said that the committee will make every decision from now onward. He said that the selection committee would decide on the matter of team captain after deliberation.
He hoped that the Champions Trophy 2024 would take place as per the schedule. He said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) team will come to Pakistan to inspect the arrangements for the global event.
Referring to the withdrawal of retirement by all-rounder Imad Waseem, he said that everybody desired to field a strong team in the T20 World Cup. “That’s why we asked Imad to come back”, he said.
He said that the panel for the coaches will be finalized within four to five days. He said that national as well as international coaches will be part of the panel.
He said that the PCB has restored the central contract of pacer Haris Rauf and forwarded his appeal to the tribunal. He said that his (Haris Rauf’s) injury would be covered through insurance. As per the contract, he said that there would be a uniform NOC policy with no relaxation for any player.
