An anti-India rally was held in Muzaffarabad, today, to pay tributes to Kashmiri martyred leaders Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt on their martyrdom anniversaries. The rally organized under the aegis of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir was taken out from Afzal Guru Chowk to Srinagar Road in the city.

The participants carrying banners with pictures of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt chanted slogans against India and in favour of Kashmir’s freedom from Indian occupation. Speakers on the occasion said that Afzal Guru was executed by the biased judiciary of India to appease Hindu extremists. They maintained that Muhammad Maqbool Butt was also executed by the tyrant and ruthless rulers of India to suppress the spirit of freedom of the Kashmiri people. They demanded handing over of the bodies of the martyrs to their heirs for proper burial in Kashmir.

Among those who attended the rally included Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, Qari Ateequr Rehman Danish, Shaukat Javed Mir, Maulana Imtiaz Ahmed Siddiqui, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Usman Ali Hashim, Bilal Ahmed Farooqui, Javed Ahmed Mughal, Chaudhry Muhammad Shehbaz, Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail and Muhammad Zeeshan. Indian authorities had hanged Muhammad Afzal Guru on February 9, 2013 and Muhammad Maqbool Butt on February 11, 1984 in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Meanwhile, another programme was also held in Muzaffarabad to pay tributes to the martyred Kashmiri leaders. The programme was presided over by AJK Local Government Minister Khawaja Farooq Ahmed and attended by APHC-AJK leader Mushtaq Ahmed Butt and others. Maulana Aziz Alvi was the special guest on the occasion.

Speakers on the occasion said that Kashmiris are making unprecedented sacrifices for the right to self-determination. They said that despite using all its resources, India has failed to suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom sentiment. They appealed to the United Nations to implement its resolutions to settle the Kashmir dispute to save the Kashmiris from Indian atrocities. At the end of the event, an anti-India rally was organized in which a large number of youth and women participated.
