Pakistan confirmed 31 more deaths from novel coronavirus in one day as the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 834 and positive cases surged to 39,729 on Saturday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab reported that 14, 13 and 11 patients of Coronavirus respectively lost their lives. The KP’s death toll from the virus rose to 305 with new deaths; seven in Peshawar, three in Swat and one each in Lower Dir, Mardan, Kohat and Bajaur. The province also recorded 169 new coronavirus, taking the provincial tally to 5,847, according to the health department.
Punjab’s Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has reported 287 new coronavirus cases, taking the provincial total to 14,201. The total number of people who have died from Covid-19 in the province has risen to 245, after 11 more people died in the last 24 hours.
Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah said on Saturday that 13 more patients of the coronavirus lost their lives in a single day, after which the provincial death toll reached 268.
The CM Sindh said that in the past 24 hours, 4,467 tests were conducted and 674 were reported positive. He said that currently there are 11,518 patients under-treatment in the province, with 832 being treated at isolation centres.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center, 1,581 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.
The nationwide tally of Covid-19 patients stands at 39,729 with 14,201 cases in Punjab, 15,590 in Sindh, 5,847 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 2,457 in Balochistan, 518 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 921 in Islamabad and 108 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has extended public holidays in the province until May 31, 2020, in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
A notification issued by the KP relief department said the extension of holidays will not apply to essential services and departments already identified by the government.
