ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Minister for Religious Affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor succumbed in a brutal car accident in the country’s federal capital, it emerged on Saturday.
In a statement, Islamabad police said Maulana Abdul Shakoor breathed his last in a road accident. The seasoned politician was traveling towards Secretariat Chowk from Marriott Hotel when his vehicle smashed into a pickup truck.
Shakoor was rushed to Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad but he could not survive.
Meanwhile, the man driving the black 4*4 vehicle has been detained and further proceedings are underway.
Initial reports suggest that Information Minister Maryum Aurangzeb and Islamabad Inspector General of Police have also reached the hospital.
As the news hit social media, condolences started pouring in.
Condolences poured in
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif mourned the death of Shakoor, expressing sympathy and condolences to family and relatives of the deceased. Paying tribute to the late politician, Sharif called him a practical scholar, an ideological political activist, and a good human being.
Abdul Shakoor was one of the dynamic and ideological leaders of and performed his duties with great diligence, sincerity and honesty as the Minister of Religious Affairs, the premier said in a statement.

President Arif Alvi also expressed grief on the passing away of a renowned politician.
The passing of Mufti Shakoor has deeply Dr Alvi who extends his heartfelt condolences and sincerest prayers to his loved ones and hailed his efforts for interfaith harmony.
