ISLAMABAD – The International Monetary Fund  (IMF) said that compared to other countries in the region, Pakistan is very weak in increasing exports.

In its report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mentioned that restrictions on payments, tariffs and non-tariff barriers for imports, and the exchange rate are the main reasons for Pakistan’s low exports.

According to the report, Pakistan should observe the competitive atmosphere in global markets for exports and imports.

To increase exports, there is a need for further value addition in the local industry production, and modern technology must be adopted to enhance and add value to local industrial production.

The IMF said that compared to Bangladesh, India, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries, Pakistan’s exports are very low.

The Fund said that Pakistan needed to increase exports in sectors other than textiles and agricultural products.

The IMF report stated that Pakistan’s performance in the global market for exports is not better compared to other countries in the region.

On the other hand, the sources from the Ministry of Commerce mentioned that the IMF asked the economic team for a plan to increase exports.
