Pakistan on Sunday confirmed 93 deaths in a single day by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 228,474 and tally of fatalities has jumped to 4,712.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center 3,191 persons have been tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours.
Till now 92,306 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 81,317 in Punjab, 27,843 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10,766 in Balochistan, 13,409 in Islamabad, 1,545 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,288 in Azad Kashmir.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza, during a visit to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, lauded the efforts of healthcare workers and medical staff fighting on the frontline against the pandemic.
He said the government gradually eased the lockdown, but shifted its focus on the implementation of standard operating procedures to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Sindh’s tally rose to 94,528 on Sunday as the province recorded 2,222 fresh cases. Another 25 patients succumbed to the virus in the province.
Sindh CM warned people about following SOPs even more strictly as Ghotki, Sukkur and Qambar Shahdadkot recorded a rise in infections among other cities.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen to 27,843 with 337 new cases reported Sunday, according to the KP health department.
Eighteen more people died from the disease in the province — six in Peshawar, four in Lower Dir, three in Abbottabad, three in Swabi and one each in Mardan and Swat. KP’s death toll now stands at 1,020.
Dr Hidayatullah Wazir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa succumbed to the virus, raising the total number of doctors who died due to Covid-19 in the province to 17. According to hospital sources, Dr Hidayatullah Wazir was undergoing treatment at the Hayatabad Medical Complex and passed away due to Covid-19.
