President Dr. Arif Alvi said that the promotion of renewable energy in Pakistan is increasing with the passage of each day and in the next few years we will see remarkable growth in the field of renewable energy in Pakistan.
He said that the renewable energy sector in the country needs to set new standards including addressing the increasing demand for electricity which can be accomplished on an emergency basis through the use of solar energy.
The President was addressing the two-day Renewable Energy Summit 2019 at a local hotel in Islamabad. On the first day of the summit in which the participants highlighted the importance and utility of renewable energy and emphasized on the multiple opportunities for renewable energy in Pakistan and the need for investment in this sector.
The topic of the conference is “Achieving 30% Renewable Energy by 2030”. The four major partners of the conference include WWEA, Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform, AEDB and PGREF. The conference began with recitation from the Holy Quran followed by speeches of President Dr. Arif Alvi, CEO of AEDB Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar, former Head of Energy UNESCO Dr. Osman Benchikh, Chairman of Pakistan Wind Energy Association and CEO Metro Power Company Ltd. Danish Iqbal, Chairman Global 100% Renewable Energy – Pakistan Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd.), President WWEA Hon Peter Rae AO and Federal Secretary, Ministry of Energy (Power Division) Irfan Ali at the opening ceremony.
During the conference there were also panel discussions in which German Ambassador to Pakistan, Bernhard Schlagheck, Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Rolf Holmboe and Member Planning Commission of Pakistan, Syed Tahawar Hussain expressed their views and talked in detail about the potential of Renewable Energy field along with its benefits.
Organized by World Wind Energy Association, the conference was attended by a large number of domestic and foreign experts who discussed various areas and possibilities of renewable energy. The conference will continue today and the special guest for the closing ceremony will be President WWEA, Hon Peter Rae AO.
