Pakistan plans relief package on food items at Utility Stores

ISLAMABAD – Federal government has finalized relief package for inflation-hit people on food items including flour, rice, and pulses at Utility Stores across Pakistan.

As per the media reports, the initiative has been taken on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The subsidy on flour, rice, sugar and pulses will be enhanced to Rs100 per kilogram.

In this regard, a summary has been forwarded to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). After approval of the ECC and the federal cabinet, the relief package will be launched on August 1. Till the launch of this package, consumers will continue to get relief under the existing PM package.

Out of Rs65 billion allocated for PM relief package for the ongoing financial year, Rs10 billion has been spent as Ramazan package. As such, Rs55 billion are supposed to be spent under PM relief package this fiscal year. Last fiscal year, the allocation under the PM package was Rs35 billion.
