ISLAMABAD –  Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Executive Committee has formally accepted the resignation of Arif Hasan, the former President.

The decision was made during a pivotal meeting held on Sunday, chaired by Senior Vice President Syed Aqil Shah.

Of the 25 committee members present, 23 voted in favor of acknowledging the retirement of retired Lieutenant General Arif Hasan.

Following the accepted resignation, the Executive Committee swiftly moved to appoint a successor in the interim. Abid Ali Qadri, the former Director General of the Federal Investigative Agency and Vice President of the POA, has been chosen as the acting president until the next round of elections.

This decision aligns with the constitutional provisions of the POA, which mandate the appointment of an acting president to fill the void created by a vacant presidential position. The committee’s selection of Abid Ali Qadri was supported by 23 members in the voting process.

Abid Ali Qadri brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the head of the Pakistan Handball Federation. His diverse background includes responsibilities in the Pakistan Sports Board, the Federal Investigation Agency, and senior positions in the Punjab Police and the Intelligence Bureau.

Acting President Abid Ali Qadri, is expected to fulfill the duties of the position until the upcoming elections, providing stability and leadership during this transitional period for the Pakistan Olympic Association.

The POA Executive Committee, during its meeting, took a moment to commend and acknowledge the services rendered by Arif Hasan during his nineteen-year tenure as the President of the Pakistan Olympic Association.

Hasan had recently stepped down from the role due to health concerns, marking the end of an era in the leadership of the POA.
