Ombudsman office is poor man’s court: Ejaz Qureshi

Office of the federal ombudsman is “Poor Man’s Court says Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Qureshi while talking to media here at the local office of the federal ombudsman here on Wednesday. Ejaz Qureshi told that number of complaints against federal departments are increasing with fast note and the confidence of the general public has increased many fold where last year total number of complaints received were 164,000 and in current year in ten months time it has been increased to 200,000 and said that last year Rs.2.2 billions cases were decided while this year till date in 10 months, this has been increased to Rs3.1 billion.

He added that disposal of the complaints is 100% which are being decided in 60 days time and informed that in majority cases, relief has been granted to complainants who had nothing to pay lawyers fee and do not have to wait long to get the case decided. Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Qureshi stressed upon the media to create awareness among general public to avail the golden opportunity to solve their issues especially relates to electricity, ,Sui Gas, Nadra and other federal department by filing simple application at their own without hiring lawyers.

While replying question, Ejaz Qureshi said that currently 18 regional offices are catering the needs of the general public despite financial constrain, we had made efforts to reach the peoples of far flung areas via “Kuhli Kutcheries” and have received overwhelming response which had ultimately paid off to the poor segment of the society .He informed that we taken extra care for the implementation of orders passed by the officials of the ombudsman and added that less than 1 % cases are again contested in appeals and at least 97 % cases decisions are upheld by the president of Pakistan.
