Omar Ayub directs KE to improve performance

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail presided over a meeting to review prevailing electricity situation in the megapolis.Federal Minister for Power Omer Ayub Khan attended through video link. Members from Pakistan TehreekInsaaf, MuttahidaQaumi Movement-P and Grand Democratic Alliance also attended the meeting.Chief Executive Officer K-Electric Moonis Abdullah Alvi was also present on the occasion The Governor said that providing uninterrupted power supply to Karachiites was the prime responsibility of K-Electric and no slackness or failure in this regard could be tolerated.It has to improve its performance by utilising every possible resources and steps needed in this regard,he added He said that despite lapse of 5 days,KE has not fulfilled its commitment of ending load shedding in 48 hours. The Governor Sindh further said that unannounced load shedding is a grave injustice with the citizens of Karachi and it should be resolved immediately.K-Electric must pay serious attention towards the situation and provide relief to its customers,he said The Governor said that additional gas is being provided to KE hence interruption in power supply to Karachiites was unacceptable. Omer Ayub Khan directed KE to immediately improve its performance and provide relief to the citizens.Federal Government was providing up to 800 MW instead of 650 MW and 250 to 280 MMCFD gas instead of 190 MMCFD to KE only for the benefit of Karachiites,the Minister added. MNAs and MPAs expressed grave concern over the performance of KE and termed it highly unsatisfactory.The tariff of KE should not be enhanced till it improves its performance,they demanded They also lamented over billing and its deliberate actions to increase the slab so as to send excessive bills. They said all over the world when consumption of electricity is higher the tariff automatically becomes lower but in case of KE it is opposite and we have to pay on higher side if we use more electricity. Markets,shopping centres and public places are closed due to Coronavirus but load shedding is still going on,they added They said KE is patronizing Kunda system resulting in extra burden on those who pay their bills regularly.KE must be held accountable for its actions during last 10 years and it must give details of profits and investments it made during the period,they further demanded
