The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in coordination with the Republic of Azerbaijan and the OIC institutions, is developing a program full of tourism, culture, arts, heritage festivals and Islamic tourism exhibitions within the framework of commemoration of the city of Gabala, the Republic of Azerbaijan, as the OIC City of Tourism 2020.
During the 10th session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM), held on 5-7 February 2018, the city of Gabala, Azerbaijan was selected as the Capital of Islamic Tourism for the year 2020.
The Capital of Islamic Tourism is selected annually by the OIC in consultation with Member States.
The program aims at developing the touristic and economic capabilities of the selected capitals, and enhancing Islamic solidarity through exchanging products and services, and supporting infrastructure in the tourism sector.—PR
