Called negligence or apathy on the part of the administration, 20 children drowned in various canals in different areas of Multan during last one month.

According to a Rescue 1122 report released on Monday, as many as 20 children drowned while taking bath in canals of Multan over past 30 days.

A rescue official said that due to loadshedding and lack of water at home, the children wary of extreme hot weather move to canals to cool themselves off by taking bath.

However, due to deep water of canals at various localities, 20 children have lost their lives during last one month, he added.

He said that taking bath in canals is banned and if district administration ensures implementation of the ban, precious lives could be saved.

Meanwhile, in a blood-curdling development came to the fore in minor brothers murder case in Okara, the post-mortem report revealed that both the minors were first sexually abused and then thrown into the canal where they died.

The arrested suspects have confessed to police they had sexually abused the brothers first and then threw them into the canal alive where they died.

Another suspect in the case is still at large, while Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has already taken notice of the matter and ordered RPO Sahiwal to furnish a report on the matter.
