NCHD to set-up100 literacy centres, 20 non-formal schools in GB

“Literacy has become an outmost requirement of an individual as it is the main ingredient of one’s life, it is the fertilizer we need for our empowerment, development and enjoying the life in a digital world of today.
Literacy is the only element that can enforce to avail the opportunities, being provided by the technology.” This was observed by the Chairman NCHD, Col (Retd) Amirullah Marwat while addressing to the members of the meeting during his visit to Gilgit Balitistan.
Chairman NCHD Col (Retd) Amirullah Marwat during his visit to GB held a meeting with Education Minister, Haji Ibrahim Sanai. Secretary Education GB, DG Education and senior officials of NCHD also attended the meeting. Chairman NCHD informed him about the interventions of NCHD carried out for enhancing literacy rate of the country. Col ® Amirullah Marwat briefed the participants of the meeting that NCHD is going to establish 100 Functional Literacy Centers where women will acquire literacy skills as well as vocational skills. This will help the females to carry out their routine chores effectively and they will be a helping hand in home economy as well through their skill.
Chairman NCHD conveyed that, in addition to NCHD regular program, 20 Non-formal Schools will also be established in the remote areas of GB. He mentioned that access to school for the young ones in such a hilly terrain is one of the main reasons for low enrollment and high dropout. NCHD will establish these schools in the community houses so that we could tackle the access issue for 5 to 9 years old kids.
He further said that provincial syllabus of primary will be imparted in these schools, so that these children could be a part of the mainstream in the future.
Education Minister appreciated the efforts of NCHD in GB for improving the literacy rate. He also assured his full cooperation for the noble cause. Secretary Education suggested that a memorandum of understanding should be signed among both the departments so that each could support to one another for implementing the projects.
Chairman NCHD also visited two literacy centers in Ghizer and Nagar established under AKRSP project.
He held a meeting with NCHD GB staff and assured them for resolving their issues.
Chairman NCHD said that, Education is among one of the main components that contribute in improving Human Indicators of a country. He stressed that joint and concerted efforts by all the stake holders can be fruitful, in improving literacy rate of the country effectively and efficiently.
