The Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday approved the nomination papers of Pakistan Muslim League-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
The nomination papers of prominent leaders have been approved whereas many others rejected in the ongoing scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by the candidates to contest the general elections 2024.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers have been accepted as no objection was filed in NA 130 (Lahore). The nomination papers of PML-N chief organizer Maryam Nawaz were approved from provincial constituency whereas objections were filed on the National Assembly seat.
The ECP also approved the nomination papers of former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari from NA 207 (Nawabshah).
Maryam’s spokesperson said her nomination papers from the Lahore and Sargodha constituencies were approved by the returning officers, but added that she would contest general elections from the constituencies where the party would decide.
The PML-N scion submitted nomination papers for three National Assembly constituencies — NA-119 and NA-120 — and four Punjab Assembly constituencies — PP-159, PP-160, PP-165 and PP-80.
Two local lawyers had raised objections against Maryam’s nomination papers, citing PML-N leader’s conviction and alleging her of forging signatures on nomination papers. The RO, however, rejected the objections and approved her nomination papers subsequently.
Meanwhile, Bilawal’s nomination papers were approved from Lahore’s NA-127, said PPP leader Zulfikar Ali Badr.
