LAHORE – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi hinted at Indian involvement in the murder attempt of Amir Sarfraz Tamba, associated with the death of Indian terrorist Sarabjit Singh in 2013.
Naqvi made these remarks while addressing a press conference at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) regional office in Lahore on Monday (today).
“Anything to say is premature as investigations are underway,” said Mohsin Naqvi. He said that the police are investigating the matter.
The Interior Minister emphasized that India had been linked to four similar murders before Tamba’s killing and mentioned ongoing police investigations into Tamba’s shooting, with initial suspicions pointing towards India.
Tamba was fatally shot in the Islampura police precinct on Sunday and succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital. Police initiated a case against unidentified assailants based on a complaint by Tamba’s brother, Junaid Sarfraz.
Furthermore, Naqvi addressed the issue of power distribution companies’ overbilling, highlighting the burden on both affluent and impoverished households. He pledged continued efforts to combat power theft, particularly in regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Naqvi also dismissed rumours of social media shutdowns, proposing introducing legislation to address fake news and baseless allegations instead. Besides, he commented on recent targeted killings in Balochistan, stressing ongoing investigations into the matter.
