The police on Sunday claimed to have resolved the mystery of rape-cum-murder of a four-year-old girl and arrested the killer, turned out to be her uncle.
The Additional IG Police South Punjab said that killer of the innocent girl is her real uncle Binyamin who has confessed to the murder during preliminary interrogation.
The officer said that accused Binyamin confessed that he suffocated the girl to death with a pillow and dumped her body packed in a gunny bag in the fields near the house.
He informed that Zeba Nadeem’s murder after abduction was a challenge for the police and the police worked hard and with the help of modern technology and CCTV footage traced and arrested the killer.
The police chief claimed that according to medical report of the girl, no sign of abuse was found in the murder case, adding that the accused had killed the girl by suffocating her due to domestic dispute.
“There are, however, no torture marks on the body,” he said adding that forensic samples have been sent to a Lahore laboratory for further examination.
The police sprung into action after the issue came to the limelight and top police officials ordered strict action not only against the suspects but the police officers who delayed registration of FIR in the case.
According to the family of the victim, four-year-old Zeba Nadeem was playing with the children five days back when she went missing.
“Her tortured body packed in a gunny bag was found from nearby fields,” the family said as they approached the Kahna Police for registration of the FIR in the matter.
The police shifted the body to ascertain the cause of death as the family had alleged the minor girl was subjected to sexual assault after being murdered.
Meanwhile, the SHO of Kahna police was removed from his post by the DPO after the family alleged that he took no action on the complaint filed with the police five days back.
