Modern technology continues to be used to curb smuggling

Chief Collector Customs (South Region), Wajid Ali on Friday said that the Customs Department brings innovation in its operations and for the first time collected a historic tax, also uses state-of-the-art technology to prevent smuggling.

He was speaking in a meeting with members of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) during his visit to KATI secretariat, said in a press release.

He said that Customs officers had always stopped illegal activities without caring about their lives. Many of them were martyred while eliminating smuggling. The Customs department was of the utmost importance in the country.

The Customs prevented billions of rupees worth of drugs from entering the country every year and it was used to be destroyed in the presence of media, for which the staff deserved was commendable.

He assured that various steps were being taken to facilitate the business community in exports and imports, which included setting up help desks at major industrial areas of like KATI.

Earlier, KATI President Salman Aslam recalled and acknowledged the services of Chief Collector Customs South Wajid Ali as Director of the Directorate of Reforms and Automation Customs.

He suggested that more effective measures should be taken to curb smuggling.

He also called for allocation National Bank of Pakistan branches in all industrial areas for submission of duties. A special coordination desk should also be set up to facilitate exporters, importers and industrialists.

He also emphasized on immediate resolution of the issues related to the delivery of goods at the port. Delivery points should be set up in industrial areas and more licenses should be issued to facilitate and expedite the delivery of imported goods.
