Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Indian government for harassing families of Hurriyat leaders and activists.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti in a statement in Srinagar said that the government’s actions are a clear violation of human rights. She said that the families of Hurriyat leaders and activists are being targeted because of their political beliefs.
Mufti’s statement comes amidst reports that the Indian government is intimidating the families of APHC leadership into issuing statements dissociating from the Hurriyat ideology.
Mufti’s vocal condemnation signals a growing tense relationship between Kashmiri people and the Indian government. It also highlights the ongoing human rights violations and political repression in the territory.
Mehbooba Mufti, President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the Modi government is planning to plunder occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s lithium reserves, adding that the resources will be gifted to companies which will later donate a portion of the profits to the ruling party in India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, reacting to a news report suggesting that the Modi government intends to auction lithium blocks in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over the exploitation of the territory’s natural resources.
“Now J&K’s lithium reserves too are being plundered & gifted to dubious companies who will then donate a part of these illicit proceeds to the ruling party as ‘party fund’,” she asserted in a post on X.
Mufti also highlighted the nexus between the BJP and crony capitalists, citing it as the reason behind New Delhi’s disregard for the legitimate demands of the Ladakhi people.
“Now that the nexus between BJP & crony capitalists stands exposed it offers the perfect explanation why Modi government continues to ignore the legitimate demands of Ladakhis. Disturbing visuals of a frail Sonam Wangchuk too have not evoked a shred of empathy or concern,” she added.—KMS
