Mayor Barrister MurtazaWahabSiddiqui, accompanied by CEO Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, conducted a thorough inspection of the S-III Sewage Treatment Plant TP-III Maripur.
The visit, which took place on Independence Day, was attended by COO KW&SC Engineer Asadullah Khan, Project Director S-III NizamuddinShaikh, and other senior officials including Town Chairman KemariHumayun Khan, Member Provincial Assembly Asif Khan, and Project Managers Shiraz Shaikh, WaseemAkhtarShaikh, and Abdul GhaffarShaikh. During the inspection, the officials reviewed critical components of the facility including the inlet, outlet, overflow, discharge, screening system, and pumping mechanisms.
The Mayor and CEO also inaugurated the pilot duckweed aquaculture project, with detailed briefings provided by PD S-III Nizamuddin Sheikh, Dr. Bashir Lakhani, and RakeshSundar. Mayor Wahab highlighted the potential of the duckweed project to produce valuable by-products such as protein and biodiesel, stressing the importance of the S-III project for the city.
He issued directives to expedite the project’s completion and ensure that treated water can be efficiently supplied to local industries. The mayor also committed to engaging with the Sindh government to secure necessary funds for the project.In addition to the project inspection, Mayor Karachi unfurled the national flag at the sewage treatment plant and offered special prayers for the nation’s development and security. The visit concluded with the launch of a tree planting campaign aimed at combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability. Children participating in the event sang national songs and chanted slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad,” celebrating the spirit of Independence Day.
