LAHORE – A local family court sentenced a person who remarried without permission from his first wife to seven months jail, and fined him Rs500,000.
Family Court Judge Adnan Liaqat announced the verdict on plea moved by Zona Nasr against her husband Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan.
The court ruled that husband Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan remarried without permission from his first wife, and it is necessary to obtain written permission for a second marriage legally.
The court held that the husband Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan did not seek permission from his first wife before the second marriage, thereby violating Section 6 of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance.
The court also decided that the offender is sentenced to 7 months imprisonment for remarriage without permission, and if the offender fails to pay the fine of Rs500,000, he would undergo an additional month of imprisonment.
