MUMBAI – Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the 43-year-old wicketkeeper-batter of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings, created history with his latest performance.
On Monday, Chennai Super Kings secured their second win of the tournament by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in an IPL match.
In the match played in Lucknow, Chennai won the toss and opted to bowl first. Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 166 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
In response, Chennai successfully chased down the target in the final over, thanks to a blistering late innings by Dhoni.
Dhoni played an unbeaten knock of 26 runs off just 11 balls, which included four boundaries and a six. Additionally, Shivam Dube remained not out with 43 runs off 37 balls.
For his excellent batting, along with two stumpings and a run-out in the match, Dhoni was named Player of the Match — thereby etching a new record in IPL history.
According to the Indian media, Dhoni has become the oldest player in IPL history to receive the Player of the Match award.
