Legislative body for appeal against court decision in favour of Sanaullah

Senate Standing Committee on Narcotics Control Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhary on Tuesday asked the ministry of Narcotics Control to file appeal against the decision of the court in drugs trafficking case against the Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sana.

The recommendations were made in the Senate Standing Committee on Narcotics Control, which held today Old PIPS Hall, Parliament Lodges while Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhary was on chair.

The Senate committee deliberated on the current status of drugs trafficking case against the Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sana Ullah. Humaira Ahmed, Secretary for Ministry of Narcotics Control, apprised the committee that court has decided in the favour of Rana Sana Ullah because the eye witnesses have stepped back from their prior statement.

Furthermore, the committee also discussed the Bill titled “Control of Narcotics Substances (Amendment) Bill, 2022”. Senator Mohsin Aziz, mover of the Bill, underlined that primary aim of bill is reduction of drugs usage in varsities and creation of healthy environment for the students. Humaira Ahmed, Secretary for Ministry of Narcotics Control, stated that the Bill involves Educational Institutions and the ministry has forwarded the Bill to Education Ministry for their input but the later has not responded. Moreover, Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Nawabzada Shazain Bugti requested the Chairman Committee to direct the Law and Education Ministry for their stance on the subject matter. The Chair directed both the Law and Education Ministry to submit their input on the matter in writing and deferred the deliberation till the next meeting.

However, as to matter related to viral video of Anti-Narcotics Force officials involved in bribery at Islamabad Airport. Secretary for Ministry of Narcotics Control informed the committee that inquiry has been initiated to probe the matter and report will be submitted before the committee once it’s completed.

Moreover, the Senate body was also briefed about the steps taken by the ministry so far for the eradication of drugs from the country. Federal Minister remarked that ministry has taken stern action against the drugs peddlers and in result, the ministry has able to seized 100 metric tons of drugs in last few months. The Committee congraluted the ministry for theirs efforts and assured full support in curbing the menace of drug from the country. The meeting was attended by Senator Naseebullah Bazai, Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Senator Falak Naz, Senator Dost Muhammad Khan, Senator Mohsin Aziz, Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Nawabzada Shazain Bugti, Secretary for Ministry of Narcotics Control Humaira Ahmed and other relevant officers were also in attendance.
