Punjab government is set to carry out cloud-seeding rain in Lahore, and parts of Punjab to deal with choking smog with Air Quality Index crossing alarming levels in October.
To deal with every year’s smog level, authorities announced plans to create artificial rain. Sources from the Ministry of Finance estimate the cost of the artificial rain project to be around Rs350 million.
Artificial rain will play key role in this initiative, focusing on reducing smog and improving overall air quality in the provincial capital. As Lahore grapples with severe pollution, these efforts aim to provide relief and protect children and old age people.
Smog Season Alert
Punjab’s smog season is expected to remain for an extended period with Lahore remaining among world’s most polluted cities. Several other cities like Faisalabad and Multan are also facing severe air quality issues, especially along the Lahore-Islamabad GT Road due to heavy traffic.
Lahore, once city of Gardens, now faces unhealthy air, predicting a prolonged smog spell. Currently, AQI in the country’s second most populated city remains at over 190, which is 20 times more than WHO recommendations.
