LAHORE –  The police established a cyber squad to address aerial firing, display and promotion of weapons on social media ahead of new year celebrations.

“A special action plan has been development to curb aerial firing,” said DIG Operations Faisal Kamran on Tuesday.

The special teams of the cyber squad and police were formed to tackle the promotion of aerial firing and illegal weapons on social media, as well as to monitor hot spot areas during the New Year and Christmas.

The DIG Operations also said that the law would take immediate action against aerial firing, and those responsible would be sent to jail.

“This year, 831 individuals involved in aerial firing and the display of weapons have been jailed,” he added.

A total of 505 cases were registered against aerial firing and weapon display.

The police said that the blind bullets from aerial firing result in the loss of precious human lives.

“Do not turn your celebrations into mourning for yourself and others. Without the cooperation of the public, it is impossible to stop this heinous act of aerial firing,” said the police.

It also urged the  citizens to report any criminal incidents in their surroundings to 15.
