LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the prevailing cold wave and dense fog/smog will persist in Lahore during the next two days.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and foggy weather is expected in Lahore and parts of Pakistan on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Freezing weather is expected in northern areas of the country.
Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Dense fog/smog will likely prevail in Islamabad, Potohar regions, and the plains of Punjab (Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan and surroundings), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Meanwhile, dense fog/smog and cold waves prevailed in Lahore and parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours.
Freezing weather prevailed in northern areas of Pakistan.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 12 C below freezing.
Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 05 C.
Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 70 per cent.
Dense fog/smog prevailed in Islamabad, the Potohar region and plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh. And Wednesday
Less visibility forced the closure of Motorways (Peshawar-Swabi, Swabi-Islamabad, Islamabad-Kallar Kahar, Kallar Kahar-Pindi Bhattian, Pindi Bhattian-Lahore, Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad, Lahore-Abdul Hakim, Sialkot-Lahore, Faisalabad-Multan, Multan-Sukkur and Mianwali-Dera Ismail Khan).
It also disrupted traffic on the National Highway and other inter and intra-city roads besides affecting flight operations and the schedule of passenger trains.
