Kashmir Journalists Forum (KJF), Rawalpindi-Islamabad, has expressed concern over the arrest of journalists by the Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and termed the move as an attack on freedom of press.
President of Kashmir Journalists Forum Khawar Nawaz Raja in a statement issued in Islamabad after a meeting of the officials of the forum in Islamabad said the closure of newspapers and arrests of journalists in the occupied territory are condemnable.
He said strict restrictions on freedom of expression are one of India’s cruel measures to suppress the freedom movement in Kashmir.
The statement said that the officials of the Kashmir Journalists Forum demand of the United Nations and human rights organizations to take notice of the cases against journalists by the Indian forces in IIOJK and take concrete steps for their immediate release.
Forum Secretary Aqeel Anjum, Senior Vice President Raja Majid Afsar, Vice President Zaheer Mughal, Joint Secretary Abid Hashmi, Finance Secretary Ijaz Khan, Information Secretary Iqbal Awan, Organizer Adeel Bashir, Deputy Organizer Talha Javed and executive body members Raja Khalid, Sardar Nisar Tabsum, Raja Usman Tahir, Aamir Iqbal Hashmi, Naveed Chaudhary, Ghulam Nabi Kashmiri and Sardar Nadeem Iqbal participated in the meeting.—KMS
