Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman expresses concerns over the traffic problems faced by the people of Karachi. Mr. Sher Zaman realizes that traffic is an important issue for Karachi that needs to be addressed by the next elected local government officials in the local government elections scheduled for January 15, 2023.The PTI Parliamentary Leader alluded to a newspaper story published back in October that out of 154 traffic signals in Karachi, including Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC), only 93 are functional. What makes this truly pathetic, is if the CBC traffic signals are excluded, then out of 94 signals under KDA jurisdiction, 61 or nearly two-thirds are non-functional.
For a city as big as Karachi, experts recommend 2,000 traffic signals are required. If PTI wins the position of Mayor, Mr. Sher Zaman assures that PTI, in collaboration with experts, will address the lack of traffic signals through scientific means.Another impediment to traffic flow is the number of vehicles on the road due to a lack of public transit. Public transit must be aggressively pursued in all major areas of Karachi so that people don’t need to take their vehicles to reach work.
