Plan for a referendum on Khalistan were announced in London today by a non government organisation.
Voting for this referendum is planned in 20 counties including United States,England and India and its results will be presented in the United Nations .
Non-government five member Punjab Referendum Commission, headed by world known Dane Waters, has been formed that will announce the calendar for voting in London virtual meeting.
Waters and other members are expert over the issue of referendum and plebiscites and were part of Bougainvillean independence referendum, Catalonia referendum, kurdistan referendum and Somaliland referendum. These experts also prepared procedures of referendums and monitored the whole exercise. Speaking with Pakistan Observer in New York, Coordinator of Sikhs for Justice, Avtar Singh Pannun said that though this referendum is non binding but a step forward for separate homeland for Sikhs. He said this unofficial referendum was announced in 2014 and affiliates of the Sikhs for Justice have been constantly working for their cause.
According to Sikhs for Justice, United Nations article 1 gives equal rights and self-determination of peoples on the basis of separate religion and language.
It is worth mentioning that chairperson of Punjab Referendum Commission Dane Waters have huge experience in campaigns and advocacy. He was a political appointee in President George H.W. Bush’s administration, served as the Political Director of the Humane Society of the United States, the largest NGO in the US with 12 million members, and was the National Field Director for US Term Limits. Dane has worked on five presidential campaigns and numerous of other candidate elections in the United States as well as presidential and prime ministerial campaigns around the world.
Dane has worked on over 60 ballot campaigns and is one of the few people who have worked on all aspects of direct democracy campaigns.
