K-Electric (KE) has intensified its crackdown on power theft in Gulistan-e-Johar, uncovering over 1,200 illegal connections, also known as “kundas,” weighing a total of 2,000 kilograms.

This operation, carried out in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, aims to combat electricity theft and reduce non-payment of bills. These illegal connections bypass the network’s safety protocols, posing significant risks to K-Electric’s infrastructure and creating potential hazards for the local population. The utility company has been carrying out such operations to curtail energy losses and ensure a safer environment for residents. Currently, 70 percent of K-Electric’s network operates without loadshedding. Areas with high theft rates, however, continue to experience power shortages. The duration of loadshedding in any area depends on the extent of power theft and bill payment compliance.
