Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi interim Ameer Munem Zafar Khan has taken a strong stance against K-Electric’s alleged discriminatory policies, asserting the party’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of Karachiites. JI reaffirmed its resistance against K-Electric’s policies that are perceived as detrimental to Karachi’s residents.
Zafar warned both the government and the NEPRA against any potential tariff hikes, urging them to prioritize the welfare of Karachiites over corporate interests. Munem Zafar criticized KE CEO Monus Alvi’s remarks labeling JI as an “enemy” of the company, emphasizing JI’s longstanding advocacy for Karachi’s rights. JI reiterated its stance against the privatization of K-Electric, advocating instead for nationalization and forensic scrutiny of the company’s accounts. Zafar accused K-Electric of providing subpar services, engaging in corrupt practices such as overcharging and using faulty meters, and defaulting on payments to SSGC and Karachiites. Munem condemned KE’s readiness to pay fines but refusal to end load shedding, labeling it as the “height of shamelessness.” JI urged the government and NEPRA to reject K-Electric’s proposal for a further tariff increase of Rs10.69.
