After the emergence of Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Islamabad, the general cases of Covid-19 virus are on the upward trajectory and the city where the positivity rate used to be the lowest in the country, below 1 percent is now showing 1.17 percent positivity rate.

District Health Officer (DHO) of Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia on Sunday shared that 54 new cases were added to the tally of infections in the city after 4,620 tests for Covid-19 were conducted in the past 24 hours. This is something very concerning that the positivity rate is going up so are the new cases and all those who have not been vaccinated so far should be administered Covid-19 jabs as soon as possible since this is our only defecne against Covid-19 as well as Omicron variant, said Dr Zia.

Sunday in fact turned out to be the day with the highest number of Covid-19 reported during the last 30 days. With 54 new infections, Islamabad’s tally of confirmed cases has jumped to 108,720 while 967 persons have succumbed to the virus so far since its breakdown in March 2020, the NCOC data shows.
