ISLAMABAD – Heatwaves will likely develop in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan from May 21, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Day temperatures will likely remain 04 to 06°C above normal levels in Sindh and Punjab from May 21 to May 23 and from 06 to 08°C from May 23 to May 27. Day temperatures are likely to remain 04 to 06°C above normal in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan from May 21 to May 27.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.
Under these conditions, mainly hot and dry weather is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of the country on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Monday night.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 39-41°C on Tuesday and 40-42°C on Wednesday.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperatures will likely stay between 37-39°C on Monday and 39-41°C on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Very hot weather prevailed in southern/central parts. However, rain-thunderstorm occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Sibi remained the hottest place in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 48°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 12 per cent.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 25 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 18 per cent.
