The district administration of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has extended lockdown in sub-sectors of G-9 as result of 600 suspected cases is awaited. Decision on extension of lockdown in the sub-sectors of I-8 and I-10 however will be made on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat on Saturday said teams of health department and district administration were actively monitoring, interviewing and tracing the contacts of the positive tests of Coronavirus in these sectors and the number of the infections had come down drastically because of the strict lockdown in these areas.
With an increase of 338 confirmed cases of coronavirus in last 24 hours Islamabad on Saturday reported 10,279 cases while number of deaths remained static on 95 giving a sense of relief to the residents of the federal capital.
The deputy commissioner while distributing security kits, water bottles and food among the security staff and rangers’ personnel at the checkposts outside the Sector I-8, I-10 and G-9 said the enforcement of smart lockdown has begun to bear fruit as the number of coronavirus cases reduced by 90 per cent in the sealed areas of the federal capital.
“Around 100 cases were being reported daily from Sector G-9, but after enforcement of smart lockdown the number of cases has reduced to 8-9 per day. It is because of the lockdown as the movement of people has been minimized,” said he.
He said no one was being allowed to unnecessarily go inside or outside the area under lockdown and even movement was being discouraged to reduce the chances of human to human transmission of the deadly virus.
It is worth mentioning that the World Health Organization (WHO) had suggested intermittent lockdown—15 days off and 15 days on—to stop the transmission of the virus.
