Pakistan strongly condemned attack by a gang of extremists on its consulate in Frankfurt, Germany and the failure of the German authorities to protect the sanctity and security of the

premises of its consular Mission.

As per the statement Sunday, FO spokesperson said: “Under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963 it is the responsibility of the host government to protect the sanctity of the consular premises and ensure the security of diplomats.

“In yesterday’s incident, the security of Pakistan’s consulate in Frankfurt was breached, endangering the lives of its consular staff. “We are conveying our strong protest to the German Government.”

“We urge the German Government to take immediate measures to fulfil its responsibilities under the Vienna Conventions and ensure the security of the diplomatic missions and staff of Pakistan in Germany,” the statement reads.

FO spokesperson also urged the German authorities to take immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in yesterday’s incident and hold to account those responsible for the lapses in security. According to media reports, the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt came under attack by Afghan nationals who vandalised the building by throwing stones and also pulled down the country’s flag.

The Pakistani diplomatic officials have protested to the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin and demanded an investigation into the tragic incident. The foreign media reported that German authorities have arrested several people after the video of the attack went viral on social media.

According to media, the German authorities had allowed Afghan citizens to hold a peaceful protest outside the consulate. But the protesters went berserk and tried to enter the consulate building. They also tried to set the Pakistani flag to fire.

Pakistani diplomatic officials said that it was the responsibility of the German government to ensure security of foreign diplomatic installations.
Meanwhile, the German authorities have assured the diplomatic officials of security and a thorough investigation into the incident. The Pakistani Foreign Office is considering summoning German officials to lodge an official protest at the diplomatic level, reflecting the seriousness of the situation and the need for enhanced security measures to protect diplomatic missions.

The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of diplomatic premises and personnel, prompting calls for stricter security protocols and better cooperation between host countries and diplomatic missions to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Earlier, Pakistan once again asked the Afghan authorities to take immediate and effective action against terrorist groups including their sponsors and backers.
