ISLAMABAD – The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has denied reports claiming that Sindh is being provided with more water than its allocated share.

In its preliminary review, the IRSA officials rejected the report suggesting excess water provision to Sindh, stating that the authority always ensures equitable distribution of water, taking away no one’s share and giving undue advantage to none.

According to an IRSA spokesperson, the officials have started reviewing the letter sent by the Punjab government, and all aspects of the letter will be thoroughly examined.

The spokesperson added that all four provinces are collectively facing water shortages, and in light of the sensitive situation in the country, blame games should be avoided. IRSA is a regulatory body that is under constant monitoring.

Tye sources within IRSA stated that provinces utilized their allocated water share during the Rabi season, and water distribution for the Kharif season is also being carried out according to regulations.

An automated system is in place, which makes it impossible for any province to receive more water than its due share.

It may be mentioned here that the Punjab government, in a letter to IRSA on Monday, stated that there is a 43% shortage of water for Kharif crops, and even within this shortage, Punjab’s share is being reduced more while Sindh is receiving relatively more water.
