Islamabad: Following the formation of the new government under the premiership of Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Interior has been directed to renew the passports of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) supremo Nawaz Sharif and former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

According to media sources, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered Interior Ministry to issue diplomatic passports to the former prime minister and Ishaq Dar.

The federal government also directed the Pakistan High Commission in London to take necessary steps for the renewal of the passports.

However, the diplomatic staff said only Nawaz Sharif can be issued a diplomatic passport, not Ishaq Dar, on which PM Shehbaz Sharif directed to issue a normal Pakistani passport to Dar.

It is pertinent to know that the previous PTI-led government had declined to renew Nawaz Sharif’s passport after its expiry in February this year, who had travelled to London in 2019 on grounds of receiving treatment for four weeks after the approval of the then federal government. However, he continued to stay in London on the pretext of precarious health conditions.
