ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday reached out to Liaquat Baloch, the Deputy Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, in a telephone conversation to discuss the demands related to the ongoing sit-in Rawalpindi
Minister Naqvi emphasized the government’s commitment to engaging in serious talks with the Jamaat-e-Islami.
The development took place a day after the Jamaat-e-Islami announced sit-in against the government over inflated electricity bills and sky-rocketing inflation.
During the discussion, Liaquat Baloch outlined several key demands: a 50% discount on electricity bills for consumers using up to 500 units, the elimination of slab rates from electricity bills and termination of capacity payments and dollar-based agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Baloch also demanded to reverse the recent increases in petroleum product prices and the remove oppressive tax burdens on the poor salaried class.
Besides it, he urged the government to end the Petroleum Development Levy.
