In what could be called a clear belligerent and inhumane act, Indian forces resorted to indiscriminate firing on a group of shepherds in Sattwal Sector from across the LoC (Line of Control) on Saturday that resulted in martyrdom of two civilians.
This once again manifests Modi’s reckless disregard for peace, stability and human lives. While Pakistan has always demonstrated maximum restraint, India on the other hand is sticking with its belligerent and aggressive policy. Such provocative acts endanger regional peace and stability. It is the first known ceasefire violation incident since February 2021 when both Pakistan and India renewed their truce in the disputed region. However, timing of the LoC violation by the Indian forces is very important, as it has come after Pakistan was asked to do more against militants in a joint statement issued after a meeting between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A statement issued by the ISPR following the unprovoked Indian firing rightly stated that driven by a newfound geo-political patronage, Indian forces have embarked on a plan to take innocent lives to satiate their false narratives and concocted allegations. The fact of the matter is that unnecessary support to India by western countries out of their political and economic expediency is only emboldening extremists like Modi to perpetrate terrorism against Muslims, especially those in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. By turning a blind eye to India’s transgressions, the world community risks perpetuating a dangerous cycle of violence and instability. India should be desisted from violating ceasefire agreement as under no circumstances, our forces will stay silent after coming under attack. Also it is their mandate to protect lives of Kashmiris along the LOC belt. Pakistan has always shown readiness for dialogue with India but instead of creating an enabling environment for it, the latest incident clearly suggests that New Delhi is only interested in further vitiating the environment through provocative steps. For regional peace and stability, major capitals will have to play a constructive role for resolution of outstanding Kashmir dispute. Rather than siding with an oppressor and terrorist, they need to stand with oppressed people of illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
