RAWALPINDI -Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was indicted in a case related to the attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ) during the violent protests that occurred across the country on May 9 last year.
This development took place during a hearing in the Rawalpindi Anti-terrorism Court (ATC), presided over by Judge Amjad Ali Shah, which was held in a makeshift court located in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
143 individuals, including Khan, have been named as accused in the case. Additionally, 23 individuals, including Zulfiqar Bukhari and Shahbaz Gill, have been listed as fugitives. All accused individuals have also been prohibited from travelling abroad.
Similarly, Awami Muslim League founder Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Sheikh Ashad Shafiq, Raja Basharat, and Zartaj Gul National Assembly opposition leader Omar Ayub were also indicted in the GHQ attack case.
Raja Basharat and Ahmed Catha, former law ministers of Punjab, were arrested outside the Rawalpindi Central Jail—Adiala Jail and shifted to the Police Chowki.
The hearing of the GHQ gate attack case has been adjourned till Dec 10
