ISLAMABAD – The bail applications of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi’s bail application were rejected on Monday in the Toshakhana case two.

Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi would not be indicted on October 2.

The hearing for the bail applications took place before Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand at Adiala Jail. Prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi represented the FIA while Barrister Salman Safdar defended Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The prosecution stated that Imran Khan acquired a valuable Bulgari set worth Rs70 million for only 2.9 million rupees. The NAB, according to the prosecution, obtained the original price of the Bulgari set from the Foreign Office, which includes a necklace, earrings, bracelet and ring. As Prime Minister, Imran Khan had appraised the market value of the set at Rs5.8 million but kept the gift from the state without depositing it in the Tosha Khana.

The prosecution further claimed that Imran Khan had the price of the Bulgari set evaluated through his office secretary Inam Shah who, along with the Toshakhana appraiser, confirmed the process. They argued that the case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi is proven, and the bail request should be dismissed.

Defense attorney Salman Safdar contended that the Toshakhana case is similar to a previous reference, with identical allegations and witnesses, and requested that it should be dismissed following the Supreme Court’s decision regarding NAB amendments. He noted that the case was transferred to the Special Judge Central from NAB, but bail was not granted to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

After hearing detailed arguments from both parties, Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand reserved the decision and later rejected the bail applications of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

They are scheduled to face charges on October 2.
