LAHORE – Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced PTI’s much-trumpeted ‘Jail Bharo’ movement from Wednesday as hundreds of his party activists flocked outside his residence to block his arrest.

Khan made the announcement in a televised address on Friday as PTI continued pressurizing coalition government for early elections. The outspoken politician said the voluntary arrest movement would begin from the Punjab capital, saying PTI leaders and workers will stuff jails of the country’s leading metropolises.

Reiterating his rhetoric of holding elections within 90 days of the dissolution of an assembly, the PTI chief slammed the caretaker government in Punjab for biased moves.

He lamented the inhuman treatment meted out to leaders of his party, naming his close aides Shahbaz Gill and Azam Swati, who suffered a flurry of cases for being vocal against the powerful.

PTI chief cheered his party workers for flocking in the wee hours of Friday when senior party leaders announced that Imran Khan would be arrested.

He maintained that he has been looking at the ruling alliance members for the election date since the local legislatures of two assemblies were dissolved.

Let it be known that PTI dissolved Punjab and KPK assemblies to force the government to the next polls.

Khan announced to kick-start voluntary arrest moment hours after President Arif Alvi summoned Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja for an urgent meeting related to announcement of the date for fresh general elections.
